Lithos
Lithos reimagines glass as a dense, stratified material, transforming it into a compact sculptural body shaped by inclusions, internal tensions and traces of transformation. Resembling a geological fragment, the collection explores the expressive potential of glass through a contemporary interpretation of Ercole Barovier's pioneering research into the inclusion of materials within molten glass.
During the making process, a reactive mineral powder is introduced into the incandescent glass, triggering a controlled chemical transformation. Bubbles and cavities form within the molten mass and become permanently suspended, creating an irregular and deeply textured interior. The glass takes on the character of stone—evoking compressed, sedimented matter in which every variation becomes an essential part of the object's identity.
Its surface unfolds like a tactile landscape, marked by craters, layered formations and subtle shifts in depth. Integrated optical lenses magnify these internal structures, revealing hidden details and amplifying the complexity of the material.
Each piece is inherently unique, shaped by the interplay of heat, chemical reaction and the precise hand of the glassmaker. Lithos strikes a refined balance between material experimentation and formal clarity, allowing the unpredictable nature of the process to become an integral part of its beauty.
In Lithos, matter becomes language—expressing itself through light, texture and transformation.
