Designed to stand the test of time, Louis Poulsen lighting has celebrated longevity and craftsmanship since the brand began collaborating with legendary lighting designer Poul Henningsen in the 1920s.
The PH 5 Retake reflects this century-long tradition through a commitment to recycling, upcycling and thoughtful design. Based on the iconic PH 5 pendant, this unique edition gives new life to vintage or imperfect lamps, transforming them into distinctive design pieces.
Each pendant undergoes a careful process in which the original paint is removed, revealing the natural character of the aluminium shades and lower steel shade. Minor dents and surface irregularities are embraced as part of the lamp's individual character, creating a raw, industrial aesthetic that makes every piece unique.
Finally, the metal surfaces are treated with a dry lubricant for protection. Left without additional surface treatment, the metal gradually develops a beautiful patina over time, allowing each PH 5 Retake to evolve and express its own character.

Light concept:
 
The fixture provides a comfortable, glare-free light, based on the principle of Poul Henningsen’s reflective three-shade system, which directs the majority of the light downwards. It emits a lateral light as well as illuminating itself, providing a soft radiance from within its core. The fixture is a retake on a classical PH 5 and has been stripped of all its previous paint, thus appearing raw and untouched. The bare metal inner shades give a particularly gentle light reflection, delivering a warm and cosy ambience. The lower shade is furthermore fitted with a frosted diffuser glass to ensure that the downward directed light is 100% glare-free.

The shades may appear with smaller irregularities, crookedness and dents. Please note that the metal surface is treated with a dry lubrication to prevent further patination. The lower steel shade will corrode over time unless it remains further treated. If preferred, applying a dry lubricant every now and then will help maintain the original raw- metal finish. FinishThe metal surface is raw after being stripped of former paint. As a result of the stripping process the finish of the aluminium surface naturally varies in darker and lighter tones. The lower shade made of steel has a different surface and may appear with occasional rust.

This product must be treated as electronic waste. The product is packaged in a fabric bag and a cardboard box. The cardboard is made from min. 75% recycled fibremass. Additional cardboard material comes from FSC approved sources.
