Samspel Sofa

Designed by Carl Malmsten in 1956, the Samspel Sofa is a distinguished example of Swedish Modernism and one of the designer’s most accomplished seating designs. Originally produced by AB Record in Bollnäs, Sweden, it reflects Malmsten’s ability to unite timeless craftsmanship with a distinctly contemporary expression.
Meaning “Interplay” in Swedish, Samspel was conceived as an intimate two-seater, with its inviting proportions designed to bring people together and encourage conversation. Its balanced form captures Malmsten’s distinctive approach, bridging the design traditions of the early 20th century with a more modern sensibility.
