Doo-Wop Pendant

Originally introduced in the 1950s, the pendant was developed in close cooperation between the Navy Buildings Department and Louis Poulsen, and it was used for many years in naval buildings for a variety of purposes such as canteens and offices; at the time it was known as the Navy Pendant and became widely adopted due to its strong functional lighting qualities and practical versatility. It remained in production until the early 1980s, when it was removed from the Louis Poulsen catalogue, although its design retained a timeless character closely associated with the “New Look” aesthetic of the 1950s. The design was later reintroduced in 2012 as the Doo-Wop Pendant in new colours and a brass version, and further expanded in 2017 with additional metal finishes in copper and stainless steel; production methods remain largely traditional, with the shades still spun by hand and finished with a fine rolled edge that gives the shade its characteristic optical depth, while the brass version in particular is more demanding to produce as it is spun from a solid brass plate and achieves a highly polished surface.
 
Light concept
 
The fixture primarily provides a downward directed soft light by means of the white lacquered inner conical reflector. The outer reflector, the main shade, contributes to directing the light up- and downwards, while at the same time spreading the soft diffused light. The inside of the main shade is illuminated through an opening in the inner conical reflector.
