Coppa Barovier
Created around 1460 and traditionally attributed to Angelo Barovier, the Coppa Barovier is considered one of the most distinguished expressions of Renaissance Murano glass. Originally conceived as a nuptial cup, it brings together ceremonial symbolism, masterful craftsmanship and extraordinary technical refinement in a single exceptional object.
Its elegant, perfectly balanced form is crafted in deep blue glass and richly decorated with hand-painted polychrome enamels and gold. The surface depicts a poetic cavalcade journeying towards the Fountain of Youth, followed by an allegorical bathing ritual—imagery evoking themes of rebirth, union and prosperity. Delicate lateral medallions portraying the profiles of the bride and groom further enhance the cup's celebratory and auspicious character.
The remarkable use of fusible enamels allows colour and light to become part of the glass itself, transforming the surface into a richly detailed visual narrative. Every element reflects the precision and sensitivity of the master glassmaker's hand.
Today, the Coppa Barovier continues to be produced using the original techniques, preserving an extraordinary continuity of craftsmanship across centuries. Each piece carries forward the purity of a traditional gesture, connecting contemporary Murano glassmaking with its Renaissance origins.
