Poul Henningsen PH 3½-2½ Floor Lamp
Poul Henningsen developed the three-shade system in 1925–1926 with Louis Poulsen, aiming to create glare-free, well-balanced light with soft shadows. Based on the logarithmic spiral, the system ensures even light distribution and effective glare control.
The PH 3½-2½ Floor is part of this extensive family of designs, which includes numerous table, floor, wall lamps, and chandeliers in various sizes and finishes. Originally made with metal shades, later versions introduced glass to provide both downward and ambient light.
The PH numbering system reflects shade sizes. The PH 3½-2½ Floor is a hybrid model, featuring a top shade of approximately 35 cm combined with smaller lower shades, creating balanced illumination. The design in its current form was introduced in 2002.
Light concept
The fixture is designed based on the principle of a reflective three-shade system, which directs the majority of the light downwards. The shades are made of mouth-blown opal three-layer glass, which is glossy on top and sandblasted matt on the underside, giving a soft and diffused light distribution.
